YJA members enjoyed a fascinating presentation from Richard Gladwell recently, the Auckland based Sail-World journalist and photographer regaling those joining the meeting with an update on the 36th America’s Cup, just a day ahead of the first races taking place for the ‘Auld Mug…

He analysed the Prada Cup Final between the UK and Italian teams, utilising Virtual Eye replays to illustrate key moments in the races, and moving on explain the issues with different race courses and how the islands surrounding the bay affect the wind. This after a run through his photographs of the racing thus far, explaining the issues involved in covering these high speed foiling 75’s, and giving us a run through the press areas and how it’s working there, especially in the midst of the second lockdown in Auckland in a matter of weeks.

Our third YJA networking meeting, and one with a difference that will be remembered for Richard’s remarkable knowledge and expertise, sharing thoughts and predictions. Thanks Richard, really enjoyable and we’ll see if everyone’s opinions on the likely winners come to be…
