YJA Stoneways Marine Yachtsman of the Year

Hannah Mills MBE –  She became the most decorated female sailing Olympian of all time – now with 2 successive Gold medals and a Silver from 2012. She is a multiple 470 World Champion, and active in environmental campaigning.

Pip Hare – From start to finish Pip’s Vendée Globe campaign was a superb example of how to communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders. Her prowess as a skilled yachtswoman was never in doubt but the human interest aspects of her very personal race were fascinating, truly inspiring.

Team GB Olympic Sailing Squad – Tokyo 2020 – Their performance was astonishing with 3 Golds, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze, the most successful nation taking part, medalling in 5 of the 10 disciplines sailed.

YJA Stoneways Marine Young Sailor of the Year

Katie McCabe – Fourteen year old Katie from Exmouth has become the youngest person to circumnavigate Great Britain. She sailed in a 26′ wooden Morgan Giles boat, Falanda, which she acquired in a dilapidated state when she was 12, and refurbished herself. She completed the voyage partly as an adventure and partly to raise money for two charities addressing ocean pollution (a subject dear to her heart).

Lucy Kenyon – the No.1 girl in Girl Med Cup in Marseille Tecno 7.8 in February 2020. Youth IQ Foil in April 2021 and 1st Girl in the IQ Class events in Porthpean and Weymouth. 5th in the World at Lake Garda. In August this year, she was 1st girl in the RYA Youth Nationals in Plymouth, gaining selection to the World Sailing Youth World Championships in Oman.

Millie Irish & Jess Powell – the girls sailed brilliantly to win the RS Feva Class sailing National Championships,  beating 170 other competitors including double Olympic medallist Simon Hiscocks. Millie is 16 and Jess, 11 and are both members of the Youth and Junior division at Draycote Water Sailing Club. The girls won 3 races in the gold fleet to clinch the title, 11 points clear of second place.

YJA Stoneways Marine Young Journalist of the Year

Timothy Long – sailed solo round Britain in 2020 for 11 weeks and 1600nm (at 15, the youngest to do so at that time). His blogs were wonderfully descriptive as he detailed his adventures. A great story, great commitment and a fabulous achievement.

Katie McCabe – Aged 14, Katie became the youngest person to sail single-handed around the UK, documenting the journey all the way. The writing is full of enthusiasm, with supporting photos and videos, with honest and beautiful reporting.
