Peter Cumberlidge

YJA member Peter Cumberlidge who specalised in maritime journalism as a freelance, author and photographer in the West Country and Channel Islands has died in hospital in Devon.

He had been in Torbay hospital since  mid-July and died on July 29, but unknown to fellow members and colleagues in the sailing world had been receiving treatment for cancer for just over a year. His home was at Slapton, near Kingsbridge, Devon.

The funeral is iat Slapton on Monday, August 19 at 2.30.

His family say if any member is thinking of going to the funeral please let her know and says she would like people to wear bright colour.

Donations in his memory will go to a fund in the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust via RC Pillar and Sons, Anzac Street, Dartmouth TQ6 9DL.

“I hope this can be used to help young people recovering from cancer to rebuild their lives through sailing and possibly start in journalism,” the family told us.
